3 murders in 26 hours: Ex-Army shot three on the temple in train and hospital, UP’s ‘psycho killer’ arrested
Three Murders in 26 Hours: There was a sensation in Chandauli and Varanasi of Uttar Pradesh due to three murders within 26 hours. The accused entered moving trains and hospitals and kept shooting people on their temples. The police have arrested the accused. He has been identified as Gurpreet Singh alias Virendra, who is said to be a resident of Amritsar and an ex-serviceman. According to the police, he retired from the army in 2020. In the initial investigation he is being considered a psycho killer.

First incident: murder of young man in passenger train
The first incident took place in Chandauli around 7 am on Sunday morning. Mangroo (34), a resident of Chaudhary Mohalla of Zamania police station area of Ghazipur, had gone to Karnataka in search of work. Returning from there, he reached DDU Junction and boarded the DDU-Tadighat passenger train to go home.
When the train reached Ibrahimpur village of Alinagar police station area, the accused approached it and shot him with a pistol on his forehead. As soon as the bullet was fired, Mangroo fell down from the seat. There was screaming among the passengers. The accused threw the body down from the train and ran away as soon as the speed of the train slowed down near Tajpur village.
Second incident: Shot while returning from bathroom in Jammu Tawi Express

The second murder took place in Varanasi at around 2 am on Sunday night. Dinesh Sahu (42), resident of Pipariya village of Gaya district of Bihar, was going to Naimisharanya with his wife by Kolkata-Jammu Tawi Express. The rest of his family members were traveling in the general compartment.
According to the police, Dinesh was returning from the bathroom when the train slowed down near Block Hut-B, before Mughalsarai station. During this time the accused shot him on his temple. The passengers ran as soon as they heard the sound of the gunshot. When the wife also reached the spot, she saw her husband lying soaked in blood.
Taking advantage of the low speed of the train, the accused jumped down. At 2:42 pm the train reached Varanasi Junction, where the body was unloaded. The police found Rs 15,000 in cash and wife’s jewelery safe with the deceased, which made it clear that the murder was not done with the intention of robbery.
Third incident: Woman shot after entering hospital
The third and most sensational incident took place at Jeevak Hospital in Alinagar, Chandauli at around 8.30 am on Monday morning. Laxmina Devi (55), a resident of Bhabhua district of Bihar, was admitted to the hospital after breaking her leg.

The accused reached the hospital with his mouth tied on the pretext of getting treatment. He got a prescription made in the name of Virendra, in which the doctor also prescribed medicines. After this, he went straight to the women’s ward and pointed a pistol at the temple of Laxmina Devi who was lying on the bed and shot her. The woman died on the spot.
Auto driver chased and caught
After the murder, the accused started firing and running away from the hospital. Then an auto driver showed courage and chased him and caught him. The pistol was snatched from the accused. After this, the crowd gathered at the spot beat him severely and handed him over to the police.
Police have recovered two pistols from the accused. Of these, one is said to be licensed in his name, while the other is illegal. During interrogation he confessed to all three murders.
Police and agencies are investigating the background
Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Nagar CO Arun Kumar Singh said that the accused has confessed to committing two murders in the train and one in the hospital. He used to work as a guard in Arrah, Bihar. Since he is a former soldier, now the Army and central agencies have also started investigating his background.
