IPL 2026: ‘Obscene gesture’ during the match; Heavy blow, fine imposed on RCB batsman Tim David
RCB vs MI: Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) batsman Tim David has been fined 30 percent of his match fee for violating Level 1 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) code of conduct. Along with this, 2 demerit points have also been added to David’s account.
The incident happened during the match against Mumbai Indians (MI) on May 10. The disciplinary action was initiated after a video showing Tim David showing the middle finger from the Royal Challengers Bangalore dugout went viral on social media. David was found guilty of breaching Article 2.6 of the code of conduct, which relates to using a gesture that is obscene, offensive or insulting.
Statement issued by IPL
A statement issued by the IPL said, ‘Royal Challengers Bangalore all-rounder Tim David has been fined 30 percent of his match fee and has also been given 2 demerit points for breaching Level 1 of the IPL Code of Conduct for Players and Team Officials. Tim was found to have breached Article 2.6 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which relates to ‘using any gesture which is obscene, offensive or insulting.’ With his mistake, Tim David accepted the punishment given by match referee Amit Sharma.”
Even before this, Tim David has been fined
This is the second time this season that David has been fined for violating the IPL code of conduct. Earlier, he was also fined 25 per cent of his match fee and had one demerit point added to his account for not following the umpire’s instructions during RCB’s match against Mumbai at the Wankhede Stadium.

In this match, Mumbai Indians had to face defeat by 2 wickets at the hands of Royal Challengers Bangalore. This defeat has also eliminated Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) from the title race along with MI.
