Do not make this mistake in search of discount, otherwise online shopping will be expensive.
Desk: If you immediately place an order after seeing huge discounts in online shopping, then this mistake can cost you dearly. The Consumer Affairs Department has cautioned people that on many e-commerce platforms, hidden charges are added later, due to which the final bill becomes higher than expected. In the post released under the “Jaago Grahak Jaago” campaign, people have been asked to read all the terms and conditions of any offer before taking advantage of it. If help is not available from any platform, a complaint can be made on the National Consumer Helpline 1915.
The Department of Consumer Affairs has tried to make people aware through its official social media handle “Jaago Grahak Jaago”. The department said that during online shopping, many customers place the order immediately just by seeing the huge discount, but later due to the addition of delivery charges, platform fees, taxes or other additional charges, the final bill becomes very high. It was also explained in the post that many times customers do not read the terms of the offer properly, due to which they have to face problems later. The government has appealed to the people to read all the terms and conditions carefully before purchasing so that any kind of financial loss can be avoided.
The department has clearly said that if the customer does not get proper assistance from any e-commerce platform, then he can directly contact the National Consumer Helpline i.e. NCH. Consumers can register their complaint by calling number 1915. Apart from this, help can also be taken by sending a message on WhatsApp number 8800001915. The government says that in many cases customers get upset when they do not get a response from the platform, but now they have an easy option to lodge a complaint. The National Consumer Helpline helps in resolving consumer complaints and also contacts the concerned company if necessary.
The government is continuously trying to make people aware through the “Jaago Grahak Jaago” campaign. In the message issued this time, it was clearly said that a wise customer is the one who does not just look at the discount and takes the decision but reads every little information carefully. The department has appealed to the people to check the final bill before making online payment. It was also said that if something in an offer seems more attractive then it becomes even more important to understand its terms.
