Opposition raised questions on Prime Minister Modi’s appeal, Sharad Pawar demanded to call an all-party meeting, said – discussion on future policies is necessary

The deepening crisis and war-like circumstances in the Middle East have created clouds of uncertainty over the global economy, which is now directly impacting India’s domestic policies and people’s lives. Amidst this serious situation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has appealed to the countrymen not to buy gold for the next one year, reduce foreign trips, reduce petrol expenses and if possible, adopt work from home. While on one hand these announcements of the Prime Minister have shown the concern of the government, on the other hand the opposition parties have raised serious questions on the practicality and possible economic effects of these appeals.

Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) chief Sharad Pawar has expressed his deep concern on this appeal of the Prime Minister. He is of the clear opinion that these announcements made by the Prime Minister have a strong possibility of having a wide and far-reaching impact on the country’s economy. Considering the seriousness of this entire matter, Pawar has demanded to call an all-party meeting immediately, so that a common strategy can be made at the national level and the current crisis can be dealt with effectively.

Sharad Pawar’s appeal to the government to think seriously

Sharad Pawar highlighted the sensitivity of this issue through his social media post. He wrote that in view of the instability and war-like situation prevailing in the Middle East, the announcements made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi will have a far-reaching impact on the country’s economy. Pawar laid special emphasis on the sudden nature of these announcements, which have created an atmosphere of uneasiness among common citizens, industry and investors. He termed the situation as ‘certainly worrying’ and urged the government to consider it seriously.

In this serious scenario, Sharad Pawar has also given some important suggestions to the Prime Minister. He said that considering the seriousness of the issue, the Prime Minister should call an all-party meeting under his chairmanship. Pawar believes that participation of leaders of all parties in the decision-making process on matters of national interest is very important for the welfare of the country. This will not only create a broad consensus but will also develop a strong and integrated approach to deal with the crisis, which will be helpful in facing international challenges.

Need for in-depth discussion on future policies

He further stressed that in view of the current international situation, the Central Government should give priority to greater sensitivity and wider consultation. Pawar suggested that the Prime Minister should immediately call a meeting with the country’s eminent economic experts, industry representatives and relevant experts to thoroughly review the situation. There should be a comprehensive discussion on future policies in this meeting, so that long-term solutions can be found. He clarified that in the current circumstances, building trust and stability among the people of the country should be the top priority of the government, because public trust is very important in dealing with any crisis.

Maharashtra Congress leader Sachin Sawant has also responded to the Prime Minister’s appeal, in which he has given some sharp suggestions. Sawant has demanded the closure of the Indian Premier League (IPL) with immediate effect. In his social media post, he raised the question as to how much the vehicles for such a large crowd would cost, which would be contrary to the current economic crisis and appeal for reduction in petrol consumption. Additionally, he also suggested the ministers to do car pooling, so that an example of thrift and responsibility can be set at the government level and a positive message can be sent among the public.
