Ahead of floor test in Tamil Nadu, AIADMK divided into two groups, a faction of AIADMK announced support to Vijay’s TVK
A big upheaval has been seen in the politics of Tamil Nadu. The discord going on within AIADMK has come to the fore. According to sources, the party seems to be divided into two groups. AIADMK leader CV Shanmugam has announced support to Chief Minister Vijay’s party TVK ahead of the floor test to be held on May 13.
AIADMK leader CV Shanmugam said, ‘We accept the people’s mandate. The people’s mandate is not for TVK, it is for Vijay to become the Chief Minister. We congratulate Chief Minister Vijay and extend our support to the TVK government led by the Chief Minister.
He said, ‘We had established this party in opposition to DMK. For 53 years our politics has been against DMK. Given this history, it was proposed to form an AIADMK government with the support of the DMK. However, most of our members rejected and opposed it. If we had formed an alliance with DMK, AIADMK would have ceased to exist.
He refused to accept this situation. Presently we are without any alliance and now our focus should be on reviving and strengthening our party. So we decided to extend our support to TVK, which has won.
Which party got how many seats in Tamil Nadu?
TVK emerged as the largest party in the assembly elections with 108 seats, but fell 10 seats short of the majority mark. Vijay has won from two assembly seats. He will have to vacate one seat, which will reduce the number of TVK seats to 107. TVK’s allies include 5 MLAs from Congress, 2 each from CPI, CPI(M), VCK and IUML. Adding all this, the total number of alliances in the Assembly has reached 120. If we talk about the opposition, DMK has won 59 seats and AIADMK has won 47 seats. Apart from this, BJP could win only one seat.
