WTC 2025-27 Points Table update: Bangladesh jump after historic win as Pakistan slip following Dhaka defeat

Bangladesh’s historic 104-run win over Pakistan in Dhaka has given the World Test Championship 2025-27 points table a proper shake-up. This was Bangladesh’s first-ever home Test win against Pakistan, and it came in dramatic fashion on the final day.

Chasing 268, Pakistan were still alive at 119 for 3, but then came the collapse. Nahid Rana tore through the batting line-up with a brilliant 5 for 40, and Pakistan were bowled out for 163. For Bangladesh, it was a landmark victory and their first win of the current WTC cycle. For Pakistan, it was a damaging defeat that pushed them further down the standings and exposed familiar problems under pressure.

WTC 2025-27: Bangladesh jump above Pakistan after historic Dhaka win

Bangladesh have moved up to sixth place in the updated WTC 2025-27 standings after beating Pakistan. They now have one win, one defeat and one draw from three Tests, giving them 16 points and a points percentage of 44.44. That puts them just behind India, who are fifth with 52 points and a PCT of 48.15.

Pakistan have slipped to seventh after their second defeat of the cycle. They also have one win from three matches, but with two losses and no draw, their points percentage has dropped to 33.33. In simple terms, Bangladesh’s draw earlier in the cycle now gives them the edge over Pakistan despite both teams having one win each.

At the top, Australia remain well clear with a PCT of 87.50 after seven wins from eight Tests. New Zealand are second with 77.78, while defending champions South Africa are third with 75.00. Sri Lanka is fourth with 66.67. England are eighth with 31.67 after a difficult start to the cycle, while West Indies remain last with 4.17 and are now the only team yet to win a match in this WTC edition.

Shanto and Nahid Rana script Bangladesh’s big moment

Bangladesh’s win was built on strong batting and ruthless final-day bowling. After being put in to bat, they posted 413 in the first innings. Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto led from the front with a century, while Mominul Haque and Mushfiqur Rahim added important half-centuries.

Pakistan replied with 386, thanks to debutant Azan Awais’ century and useful contributions from Abdullah Fazal, Salman Agha and Mohammad Rizwan. But Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s five-wicket haul helped Bangladesh take a valuable first-innings lead.

Bangladesh then declared their second innings at 240 for 9, with Shanto again making a major contribution through a composed 87. Set 268, Pakistan had a real chance, but the final session became a nightmare. Nahid Rana bowled with pace and hostility, picking up his second Test five-wicket haul and triggering a collapse that Pakistan simply could not stop.

Shanto was named Player of the Match for scores of 101 and 87, but Nahid’s spell was the match-breaking moment. Bangladesh did not just beat Pakistan; they made them unravel when the game was still there to be saved.

What the result means for WTC race

This result is massive for Bangladesh because it keeps them relevant in the WTC race. Sixth place may not sound glamorous, but with a PCT of 44.44, they are now close enough to India to feel part of the mid-table fight. More importantly, they have shown they can win a pressure test at home against a major Asian rival.

For Pakistan, the defeat is a serious setback. Their PCT has fallen to 33.33, and with two losses already in three Tests, they cannot afford many more slips. The WTC is unforgiving because percentage matters more than total points, and early defeats can make the road to the final brutally steep.

The bigger worry for Pakistan is how the defeat happened. They were not blown away from ball one. They were in the chase, had wickets in hand, and still lost seven wickets in the final session. That kind of collapse hurts both the table and the dressing room.

Bangladesh, meanwhile, will feel this win can become a turning point. A first home Test victory over Pakistan, a jump in the WTC standings, and a fast bowler winning the match on Day 5: that is the kind of result that can change belief. Pakistan, on the other hand, now need a sharp response in the second Test, because their WTC campaign has already started to wobble.
