Top 10 Best Selling Mid-Size SUVs: Hyundai Creta Leads, Mahindra Scorpio Second

The mid-size SUV segment is one of the most competitive segments in the market. There are several models in this particular segment, and it is a category that is continuously growing. Almost every major brand present in India has at least one product in this segment. Sales numbers for the mid-size SUV segment for the month of April are out, and here’s how the top 10 SUVs performed.

The best-seller in this segment is the Hyundai Creta. It has been the king of this segment since its launch. The Creta is a popular choice among buyers for its premium looks and features. It is also available with multiple engine and transmission options. In April 2026, Hyundai sold 15,291 units of the Creta in India.

The second spot has been taken by an Indian manufacturer, and no, it is not Maruti. It is actually the Mahindra Scorpio. Mahindra sold 14,719 units of the Scorpio in the market in April this year. The Hyundai Creta held 13.4 percent of the segment share, while the Mahindra Scorpio held 12.9 percent.

Maruti is in third place with its Victoris SUV. It is based on the same platform as the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and offers the same engine and gearbox options but with more features. The SUV was launched last year and has caught the attention of buyers for its European-inspired looks. In the month of April, Maruti sold 13,701 units of the Victoris in the market.

Kia Seltos is in fourth place. Kia launched the new Seltos this year, and we have started seeing consistency in terms of sales numbers too. Surprisingly, the new-generation Seltos is still behind the older-generation Creta when it comes to sales. Kia sold 10,566 units of the Seltos in April this year.

Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder secured the fifth position, with Toyota selling 9,115 units of the SUV in April. Just behind Toyota, Mahindra secured the seventh position by selling 8,915 units of the Mahindra Bolero in the market. This is actually proof of how popular the Bolero name remains even after being over two decades old.

The eighth position was also secured by Mahindra, and this time it was one of the brand’s most recent products, the Mahindra XUV 7XO. Mahindra sold 8,630 units of the SUV in April this year.

Maruti sold 7,718 units of the Grand Vitara and took ninth position. The last, or 10th, position was secured by a very unconventional-looking SUV and also the only EV on this list. MG Windsor EV recorded sales of 3,296 units in April. It is actually a mix of MPV and hatchback and even MG called in CUV and not an SUV. So we are replacing the Windsor EV with Mahindra XEV 9S which secured the 11th position. Mahindra sold 3,242 units of the EV in the market last month.

Hyundai, as mentioned above, is the king of the mid-size SUV segment. It has set a benchmark, and the numbers are expected to go up even further as Hyundai is now working on the next-generation Creta SUV.

It has been spotted testing multiple times, and from the pictures available online, it is clear that it comes with an all-new design featuring sleeker-looking headlamps, a premium bumper, and sleek tail lamps with LED elements and connecting light bars.

One of the most anticipated aspects of the next-generation Creta, apart from the premium features, is the engine. The Hyundai Creta will come with the brand’s new 1.5-litre strong-hybrid petrol engine.

It would be the first time Hyundai offers a strong-hybrid system in India, and it is actually designed specifically for the Indian market. This setup is expected to offer great efficiency and could replace diesel engines in the long run. Hyundai will continue to offer the same 1.5-litre NA petrol, 1.5-litre turbo-diesel, and 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engines as the current version.

The Mahindra Scorpio is also a popular SUV in the Indian market. Mahindra currently offers the Scorpio N and Scorpio Classic, and both are equally loved by customers in India. The Scorpio Classic caters to buyers who are looking for a rugged, no-nonsense SUV, while the Scorpio N appeals to buyers who want a premium experience without compromising on ruggedness.

Both the Scorpio N and Scorpio Classic are expected to receive updates this year. The Scorpio N will get a bunch of cosmetic updates like revised bumpers, new alloy wheels, a bigger touchscreen, and maybe even better safety features like Level 2 ADAS on more variants.

Coming to the Scorpio Classic, we expect Mahindra to make minor changes to the exterior while maintaining its much-loved rugged look. It may also be offered with a different cabin colour theme along with a larger or improved touchscreen infotainment system.
