VnExpress readers have voted for the best Vietnamese dish
Pho is a traditional Vietnamese dish consisting of soft flat rice noodles served in an aromatic broth made with either beef or chicken and seasoned with a variety of herbs and condiments.
Widely regarded as Vietnam’s national dish, pho is enjoyed throughout the country. Although it originated in Hanoi, the dish has evolved over time, particularly in southern Vietnam, where regional flavors have introduced new variations.
Beef pho is typically made using different cuts of beef, while the broth is slowly simmered from beef bones, shank, oxtail and neck bones together with spices such as cinnamon and star anise to create its distinctive rich flavor.
“Well deserved… this soup is good,” reader Lothar Scholz wrote.

Banh mi is beloved by many tourists as Vietnam’s renovation to a French culinary remnant.
The Vietnamese version is often added with ingredients such as cilantro, chili, and pickles to create a unique taste that has achieved global spotlight for a long time.
“I have eaten sandwiches or equivalent to banh mi from most cities in Asia, Europe and U.S. Banh mi should be #1. It’s good and cheap. Long queues of local and foreign visitors wait to buy banh mi. Da Nang for example,” reader AT Tan commented.
Reader Paul Frecklington urged people to try banh mi in the right place.
“Need to have it in Vietnam though to get the ingredients proportions correct. In Australia they are ok in some places but are Australianized.”
