New Delhi, 12 May. India is hosting the BRICS Group of Foreign Ministers Summit-2026 this year. The two-day conference will be held on 14 and 15 May in the national capital New Delhi. Earlier, the 17th BRICS summit was organized by Brazil in Rio de Janeiro. The Ministry of External Affairs has shared information about the detailed program of the conference.
14 It will start with the meeting of foreign ministers on May
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the foreign ministers will arrive at the Bharat Mandapam on May 14 at 10 am. After this the first session will start at 10.30. A joint meeting of all the ministers is proposed with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at ‘Seva Teerth’ at 1 pm. After this the second session will start at 3.10 pm. At the same time, at seven in the evening, Foreign Minister S. A dinner will be organized by Jaishankar at Bharat Mandapam.
15 Third session will be held in May
The third session will start on the second day of the conference i.e. on May 15 at 10 am. During this period, various global and regional issues are likely to be discussed among the member countries.
2021 India did it in 13Hosting of the BRICS summit
Earlier, the 13th BRICS summit was held under the chairmanship of India on September 9, 2021. The theme of that conference was ‘BRICS 15: Continuity, Consolidation and Consensus for Intra-BRICS Cooperation’. The New Delhi Declaration was adopted at the conference, which emphasized on improving the multilateral system, cooperation against terrorism, use of digital tools for sustainable development goals and enhancing people-to-people contacts.
India had started many new tracks
During its previous chairmanship, India had taken several initiatives towards making the functioning of BRICS more simple and accessible. Under this, new ministerial tracks like the Digital Health Summit and the first Water Ministers’ Meeting were started.
Foreign ministers of many countries are likely to attend
Foreign ministers of Brazil, Russia, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia and Indonesia are likely to attend the meeting. According to sources, there may be Deputy Foreign Minister level representation from the UAE. At the same time, Iran is also likely to send a Deputy Foreign Minister level delegation, while China’s Sherpa delegation is expected to attend.
Focus will be on global south and economic partnership
According to reports, important issues like Global South, multilateral cooperation, economic partnership, regional security and current geopolitical tensions can be discussed in the conference. India has set the theme for its BRICS chairmanship as ‘Building for Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability’. India also launched the website, theme and logo of ‘BRICS 2026’ on January 13.
