Criminal history of Shamim, close to former minister Arup Roy
Shamim Ahmed is considered very close to Arup Roy, who was a minister in the previous TMC government led by Mamata Banerjee. In the Bengal election violence that took place on May 8, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had alleged that miscreants associated with Trinamool had carried out bombings and firing to target their minority workers. The accused is currently absconding in the case of attack on BJP worker. It is alleged that there was heavy stone pelting, bombing and firing in this attack, in which Shamim played an important role.
Shamim was arrested in the attack on Ram Navami procession several years ago.
By the way, this is not the first time that Shamim Ahmed has had trouble with the investigating agencies. Several years ago, he was arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for his alleged involvement in the violent attack on the Ram Navami procession in Howrah. Despite his controversial past, it is said that he had considerable influence under the patronage of the TMC government.
