Lucknow. The continuous increase in the prices of commercial gas cylinders has increased the problems of businessmen involved in tent, catering and decoration business. Uttar Pradesh Tent Caterers and Decorators Welfare Association has announced to send a memorandum against the government to the Chief Minister through District Magistrates across the state on May 15.
In the meeting held at Vindhyavasini Hotel located in Sarvodaya Nagar, traders said that the prices of commercial gas cylinders were increased twice within just 15 days. The increase of first around Rs 350 and then around Rs 973 has spoiled the entire mathematics of business. Bookings were taken earlier, now due to increase in prices in Sahalag, the mathematics has gone wrong. In the meeting, traders said that such a big increase on commercial cylinders had never happened before. Its direct impact is on marriages, banquets and social events.
Businessmen say that they take bookings at pre-fixed rates, but due to the sudden increase in costs, they are now facing huge financial pressure. State president of the association, Vijay Kumar said that whenever there was any crisis in the country, the businessman always stood with the government. Be it the Corona period or any other disaster, the traders cooperated all the time. But now traders should also get respect and relief.
State Vice President Shashikant Shukla said that tent and catering business is directly related to social events. All the responsibilities from arranging food to wedding ceremonies rest on these businessmen. Association’s city general secretary Ritwik Jaiswal alleged that black marketing has also increased amid the increased prices. He said that cylinders which have reached Rs 3200 are being sold in the open market at more expensive prices. Due to this, the problems of small businessmen have increased further.
In the meeting, the traders not only raised the issue of gas cylinders but also the issue of no entry on the vehicles of tent traders and traffic police action. Traders say that during weddings, tents and catering vehicles run at night, but the police stop them and harass them. The traders demanded from the government that a permanent solution should be found for the tent traders so that they do not have to face repeated actions and fines.
It was decided in the meeting that on May 15, the officials of the organization in all the districts of the state will send a memorandum to the Chief Minister through the District Magistrate.
