Why Didn’t Yuzvendra Chahal Bowl vs DC?

Punjab Kings skipper Shreyas Iyer didn’t hold back when talking about his bowlers after the IPL 2025 game versus Delhi Capitals. Despite being chased down at home, he zeroed in on the lack of impact from the pace-heavy attack. Four straight losses now weigh heavy on the team, sparking strong words from ex-India player Dodda Ganesh. Leaving Yuzvendra Chahal idle throughout felt reckless – that’s how it came across to many watching closely. While others took overs and struggled badly, giving up boundaries freely, one key option sat quiet on the bench. Marcus Stoinis faltered late, Yash Thakur failed to tighten lines, Ben Dwarshuis lacked bite, even Marco Jansen looked off balance, leaking runs fast.

Chances are low a spinner stays idle through a whole game. At the pretty ground in Dharamsala, Chahal stood ready, picked purely to bowl. Still, captain Shreyas never once handed him the ball. Wait turned into silence.

Baffled by the decision, Ganesh said: “So, Chahal doesn’t get to bowl at all. Goodness gracious! To think that a champion bowler like Chahal wouldn’t have induced one mistake from those left-handers’ bats is foolhardy to say the least. He any day has a better chance of picking wickets than Stoinis. When will this ridiculous match-up game stop?”

Surprise hit hard when even ex-India player Mohammad Kaif noticed neither Axar Patel nor Shreyas turned to spin once during the game.

“Surprising how no spinner was used by DC and Punjab at Dharamshala. Statistics show how spinners have better economy than pacers at this ground since 2023. Seasoned match winners Axar Patel and Yuzi Chahal playing no role with the ball in a T20 game is puzzling,” he said.

Shreyas Iyer Talks About Leaving Out Yuzvendra Chahal
Out in the open, the PBXS skipper faced questions on why Chahal didn’t get the ball after play ended. A moment passed where spinning him felt possible – yet pace stayed central because movement off the surface leaned fast bowlers’ way. Though thoughts flickered toward change, grip and seam behavior pulled choices back.

“There was absolutely a thought in my mind, but the way ball was seaming and the way it was helping seamers, I think if we would have executed our line and length precisely, we could have been able to extract wickets, but unfortunately again, we didn’t,” Shreyas Iyer said.
