Religious importance of Guru Pradosh fast
Guru Pradosh Vrat is considered the best opportunity to receive the blessings of Shiva. According to religious beliefs, observing this fast reduces the ongoing problems in a person’s life and provides mental peace. Especially the Pradosh fast observed on Thursday is considered to pacify the evils related to the planet Jupiter. According to astrology, this fast is considered beneficial for those people in whose horoscope the planet Jupiter is weak. By worshiping Lord Shiva and chanting mantras on this day, the planet Jupiter gets strengthened and auspicious results start coming in work related to education, marriage, children and career. Besides, there is also belief of freedom from enemies and increase in respect.
method of worship
- On the day of fasting, wake up early in the morning, take bath etc. and wear clean and light colored clothes.
- After this, meditate on Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati in the home temple and take a pledge to fast.
- Light a ghee lamp at the place of worship and chant Shiva mantras.
- Maintain integrity throughout the day and do not have any bad feelings towards anyone.
- During Pradosh period, go to Shiva temple and anoint Shivalinga with water, milk and Panchamrit.
- Offer Belpatra, Dhatura, sandalwood, Akshat and white flowers to Lord Shiva.
- After this, recite Pradosh Vrat Katha and chant Shiv Chalisa or Mahamrityunjaya Mantra.
- In the end, perform aarti of Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati and offer food.
- After the puja, distribute the prasad among the family members and then break the fast.
