Actually, in a viral video, Arshdeep Singh was heard joking with Mumbai Indians batsman Tilak Verma and saying, ‘Oye darkness, have you applied sunscreen?’ As soon as this video surfaced, different reactions of people started coming on social media. Some people called it a light joke among the players, while many users started criticizing Arshdeep considering it a comment on skin colour.
Amidst this entire controversy, Mumbai Indians also shared a video on social media. In the video, Tilak Verma was seen with his trophy and awards after playing the match-winning innings. But the most discussed was the Bollywood song ‘Chana Mereya’ used in the video. Fans considered this as Mumbai Indians’ funny reply to Arshdeep’s comment and within no time this video went viral on social media.
However, the sharpest reaction in this controversy came from former Indian spinner Laxman Sivaramakrishnan. While posting on social media platform X, he demanded strict action against Arshdeep Singh. He wrote that Arshdeep should be banned from the remaining matches of this season and players should be hit for such things where it makes the most difference.
Sivaramakrishnan also said that when he had earlier raised his voice on issues like racism, people had made fun of him. This post of his is also now being shared on social media.
However, Tilak Verma did not appear angry or uncomfortable anywhere in the video. This is the reason why a large section of fans consider it a common joke among the players. Cricket fans are now divided into two parts. Some people are calling it a statement crossing the limits while some believe that such minor altercations on the field are common.
Along with the on-field conflict in IPL, the battle on social media is also becoming equally big. In such a situation, it will be interesting to see whether there is any further official response to this controversy or not.
