What’s so special about a hydrogen bus?

This bus runs on PEM (Proton Exchange Membrane) fuel cell technology. The bus is equipped with a 350-bar hydrogen storage system and a 70 kW fuel cell, which powers the bus. Apart from this, electronic braking system, stability control, GPS tracking and CCTV cameras have been installed for safety. This 12 meter long bus has a seating capacity of 35 passengers. Hydrogen-powered vehicles emit very little or almost zero pollution, so they are considered an environment-friendly alternative to petrol, diesel and CNG vehicles. However, the necessary infrastructure for hydrogen fuel is still largely lacking in India, so scaling up these buses is currently challenging.
