Political battle over ‘tainted’ entry in degree college inauguration
The controversy over the inauguration ceremony of the newly established degree college in Triveniganj in Supaul district of Bihar has now taken a completely political color. The opposition has launched a direct attack on the government after the video of Bihar government’s Deputy CM Vijendra Prasad Yadav being welcomed by an accused in an alleged sex racket case at a government function went viral.
Deputy CM Vijendra Yadav, MP Dileshwar Kamat and BNMU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr BS Jha were present on the stage in the program organized on Saturday. In the viral video, a person is seen welcoming the guests with flower garlands, who has been accused of running a sex racket in the past and who is said to have recently been released on bail. After the video surfaced, there was a flood of questions on social media as to how such a controversial person got access to a government platform.
Now RJD has also opened its front regarding this entire matter. While sharing the post from the official social media page of RJD, it was taunted that “Dy CM Vijendra Yadav and MP Dileshwar Kamat were welcomed in Triveniganj, Supaul by the person accused in the alleged sex racket case. BJP’s color has really been painted on JDU.” After this post of RJD, political rhetoric has become more intense. The opposition is calling it an example of power protection and political degradation, while no clear reaction has come so far from the ruling party.
The matter gained more momentum when it was discussed that former MLA Veena Bharti, who had represented the area twice, did not get a place on the stage, while a person with a controversial image was seen playing an active role on the stage. There is an atmosphere of resentment and discussion regarding this even at the local level. BNMU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr BS Jha, while clarifying on the matter, said that it was a government program and he was not aware of all the people present on the stage. He said that the presence of only the Deputy CM, local MP and local MLA was fixed from the university’s side. The organizers will be aware at what level the remaining people got access to the stage.
In the politics of Bihar, the stage has now become a medium of message and not just of speech. This stage in Triveniganj once again showed that for those close to power, both protocol and image are often left behind. The program whose purpose was to give the message of education and development, is now being discussed more about the faces seen on the stage than about the college. The opposition has found the issue while sitting, while the ruling party seems to be stuck between clarification and silence.
