Vd Satheesan Becomes Chief Minister Of Keralam Takes Oath Of Office And Secrecy

VD Satheesan took the oath of office and secrecy as the new Chief Minister of Kerala. The Governor administered the oath to him at the swearing-in ceremony held at the Central Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram. Many senior party leaders including Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Vadra, Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge were present in this ceremony.

The swearing-in of VD Satheesan formally ended the decade-long rule of senior CPI(M) leader Pinarayi Vijayan in Kerala. Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar administered the oath of office and secrecy to Satheesan and his 20-member cabinet at a grand ceremony held at the Central Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram. Along with Satheesan, all his ministers also took oath. This is the first time in almost six decades that the entire Kerala Cabinet has taken oath en masse on the same day.

The Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) has returned to power after a gap of nearly 15 years under the leadership of late former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy. Congress leaders have described this swearing-in as the beginning of a new political era in Kerala.

On this occasion, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge said, “This is a historic victory in Kerala and we are all very happy with it. This is a very special day for the people of Kerala, because after 10 years UDF is coming to power again. The people have rejected the 10 years of LDF rule. Now it is our responsibility to give good governance to the people of Kerala.”

In the recently held assembly elections, the United Democratic Front (UDF) made a strong comeback and won 102 seats in the 140-member assembly. At the same time, Congress alone recorded its best performance so far in the state by winning 63 seats.
