Called on the pretext of party booking, then cut off both thumbs… Main accused caught by police after 5 years
The Crime Branch of Delhi Police has finally arrested Brahmadev Bhagat, the main accused who was absconding in the sensational robbery and attack case of the year 2020, from Purnia, Bihar. The 70-year-old accused was dodging the police for the last 5 years and the court had already declared him a fugitive.
According to the police, on March 17, 2020, event manager Surinder Nanda had received a call in the name of booking a big party. After this his manager Kapil Chadha was sent to Dwarka. The people present there asked Surinder to come himself. Surinder reached Dwarka Sector-23 at around 8 pm, where a Maruti car took him to a house in a deserted area.
Surinder’s old vegetable supplier Brahmadev Bhagat was present inside the house along with his three companions. It is alleged that the accused attacked Surinder with sticks, then looted his diamond ring and Rs 27 thousand at knife point. Not only this, fake vegetable bills worth Rs 11 lakh were also forcibly signed under threat of death. The brutality of the incident did not stop here. According to the police, Brahmadev Bhagat cut both the thumbs of Surinder Nanda with a knife and fled from the spot.
Three accused – Jitendra, Amardeep and Gautam – were arrested after the incident, but the main accused Brahmadev remained absconding. The Crime Branch’s NDR team led by Inspector Yogesh and Inspector Vinod Yadav was busy searching for him. On May 15, police received information that Brahmadev was hiding in Purnia, Bihar. After this, the team laid a trap and arrested him on May 17. During interrogation, the accused has confessed to his crime.
Investigation revealed that after the incident, he kept avoiding the police by constantly changing cities. Brahmadev, who studied till fifth standard, was earlier a wholesaler of vegetables in Azadpur Mandi and was currently running a grocery shop in Purnia. DCP Crime Pankaj Kumar said that the accused has been arrested under Section 35(3) of BNSS and further action is underway in the case.
