Mumbai to Ahmedabad: 508 km journey in just a few hours
The 508 km long project between Mumbai and Ahmedabad is India’s first bullet train project. This high-speed train will run through Maharashtra, Gujarat and Union Territories of Dadra and Nagar Haveli. A total of 12 stations have been fixed on this entire route. This includes:
- Maharashtra: Mumbai (BKC), Thane, Virar, Boisar.
- Gujarat and others: Vapi, Bilimora, Surat, Bharuch, Vadodara, Anand, Ahmedabad and Sabarmati.
Project work on war footing
As per the latest update given by the Ministry of Railways, the foundation work of all the 8 stations in Gujarat has been completed. In Maharashtra too, the construction process has picked up speed between Thane, Virar and Boisar. Excavation work for an underground station at the Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) in Mumbai is in its final stages. The work of the undersea tunnel, which is the biggest attraction of this project, is also progressing at a very fast pace.
Big news! The biggest hurdle of Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train is removed, the tunnel will be 7 km deep in the sea
Speed of 280 km per hour under ‘Make in India’
Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Make in India’ campaign, the coaches of this bullet train are being manufactured in India. Chennai-based ‘Integral Coach Factory’ (ICF) and Bengaluru-based ‘BEML’ are jointly developing the train sets. According to the technical report of the Railways, the design speed of this train will be as high as 280 km per hour. Due to this, the hour-long journey between Mumbai and Ahmedabad will be reduced to a few minutes.
Combining Japanese technology with Indian needs
This entire bullet train project is being developed with the help of Japan’s world famous ‘Shinkansen’ high-speed rail technology. However, its design has been specially modified keeping in mind the Indian climate, geographical conditions and passenger needs. Railway officials have clarified that the train will be equipped with safety, comfort and world-class digital facilities.
The biggest revolution in the history of Indian Railways
According to experts in the automobile and infrastructure sectors, this project will be not just a train but an engine to accelerate India’s economic growth. This will increase trade between the two great states, create new employment opportunities and make India one of the few countries to have high-speed rail technology globally.
