Frankenstein TV Show Starring Zach Galifianakis Coming to Hulu
A brand new Frankenstein TV show based on an iconic cult classic movie is in the works, with Zach Galifianakis attached to star.
What do we know about the new Frankenstein TV show starring Zach Galifianakis?
According to a new report from Deadline, FX has picked up the series Very Young Frankenstein, based on Mel Brooks‘ classic 1974 film Young Frankenstein. The show comes from the creative trio of Stefani Robinson, Taika Waititi, and Garrett Basch, who were also executive producers on the What We Do In the Shadows series.
Alongside Galifianakis, the pilot of the series also stars Dolly Wells (Doll & Em), Spencer House (Tell Me Lies), Nikki Crawford, Kumail Nanjiani (Eternals), and Cary Elwes (The Princess Bride). Robinson wrote the pilot, with Waititi directing. Galifianakis is best known for his roles in The Hangover movies, but most recently starred in Disney’s Lilo & Stitch live-action adaptation, and will appear in 2026’s The Gallerist.
“Very Young Frankenstein blends inspiration from the fan-favorite movie with the inventive, irreverent spirit that has defined FX comedies over the years, making this a completely original take on the classic story,” said Nick Grad, President, FX Entertainment. “In the hands of FX veterans Stefani, Taika and Garrett, alongside the iconic Mel Brooks, we know that fans will have as much fun watching this series as we’re having making it.”
Originally released in 1974, Young Frankenstein follows the story of Dr. Frederick Frankenstein (played by Gene Wilder), a descendant of Victor Frankenstein, who is trying to make a name for himself. The comedy was a parody of the classic horror film genre, particularly many of the early 1930s Universal Pictures movies. The film was a smash hit, and is often regarded as one of the funniest films of all time.
