Current Affairs: America wants supremacy in the Bay of Bengal

The American dream of building a military base on St. Martin Island located in the Bay of Bengal may be fulfilled. Former Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina had to pay the price of losing power for rejecting the American proposal to build a military base on this island. Now Prime Minister Tariq Rehman is completely under American pressure and seems eager to accept everything America says which is not even in the interest of its neighboring countries.
There is going to be a defense agreement between America and Bangladesh, which will not only increase India’s tension, but can also become an arena of war for supremacy between superpowers like America and China in the Bay of Bengal which has been peaceful for decades. After this agreement, not only will the US Army be able to use the airbases and ports of Bangladesh, but it will also be able to keep an intelligence eye on countries like Iran, China, Russia, India etc. from here.
Recently the American trade delegation had visited Bangladesh. During this visit, the necessary conditions for the implementation of earlier mutual trade agreements were discussed. Also, during this period, some demands were also made from America in return for future economic concessions to Bangladesh. America wants Bangladesh to enter into a General Security of Military Information Agreement and Acquisition and Cross-Servicing Agreement with it. After this agreement, US fighter aircraft will be able to use Bangladesh’s airports and warship ports for maintenance, refueling and re-supply.
America is eager for this agreement. Even the rulers of Bangladesh will not be able to refuse it. This agreement will be reached soon. After this, Bangladesh and America will also give intelligence information to each other. Besides, America will also be able to keep an eye on the activities of countries like China, India etc. in the Bay of Bengal and Indian Ocean. It will also get access to strategic ports like Chittagong and Matarbari, which will not be good for India in any situation.
This move will not only weaken China’s strategy to bypass the Strait of Malacca, but will also have a huge impact on Chinese investments in the China-Myanmar Economic Corridor and oil pipelines leading to Kyaukphyu port. America will not only maintain Bangladesh’s ports but will also provide it with necessary weapons on a large scale. Currently, 70 percent of the defense products required by Bangladesh come from China. It has been America’s intention for years to keep an eye on countries like China, Russia, Iran, India etc. from the soil of Bangladesh.
This dream of Sheikh Hasina was never fulfilled when she was in power, because Sheikh Hasina was inclined towards India and she did not want her land to be used even against its neighbors, hence she never came under American pressure and remained strong on the basis of her independent foreign policy, but due to the movement in 2024, she not only had to be ousted from power but also had to take refuge in India to save her life.
He had also alleged American involvement behind this incident. After him, Mohammad Yunus, who became the Chief Advisor of Bangladesh, not only promoted American interests there, but the Pakistani Army and intelligence agency ISI also got the opportunity to establish a strong foothold there. Now even fundamentalist forces have become dominant there. The presence of ISI and Pakistani Army was a matter of concern for India, now the agreement being signed with America is also not very suitable for India.
