PM Modi will attend the third India-Nordic Summit in Oslo today, focus will be on technology and defence.

Oslo, May 19. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the third India-Nordic Summit to be held in Oslo on Tuesday. The objective of this summit is to further strengthen the strategic partnership between India and Nordic countries in areas like technology, renewable energy, defence, sustainability and trade.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), “The third India-Nordic Summit will be held in Oslo on May 19, 2026. Along with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of Norway Jonas Gahr Storey, Prime Minister of Denmark Mette Frederiksen, Prime Minister of Finland Petter Orpo, Prime Minister of Iceland Kristrun Frostadottir and Prime Minister of Sweden Ulf Kristersson will also attend the summit.

MEA said that this summit will be a continuation of the two previous summits held in Stockholm in 2018 and Copenhagen in 2022. Through this, relations between India and Nordic countries will be given a more strategic shape, especially in areas like technology and innovation, green transition, renewable energy, sustainability, blue economy, defence, space and Arctic. Ahead of the summit, Prime Minister Modi participated in the India-Norway Business and Research Summit in Oslo on Monday. Here he emphasized on the increasing economic cooperation between the two countries after the implementation of the India-EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement.

CEOs of more than 50 companies and more than 250 people from the business and research sectors of India and Norway participated in this event. During this period, several business agreements were also signed between Indian and Norwegian organizations. Prime Minister Modi reached Norway on Monday in the fourth leg of his five-nation tour. Showing special respect, Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store himself arrived at the airport to welcome him.
Norwegian Ambassador to India May-Elin Steiner, Indian Ambassador to Norway Gloria Gangte and other senior officials were also present there. During his visit, PM Modi also met King Harald-V of Norway at the Royal Palace in Oslo. The two leaders discussed the growing cooperation between Indian and Norwegian companies, especially in the field of emerging technologies.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), “He appreciated the natural beauty of Norway and said that the long-standing friendship between India and Norway continues to grow stronger based on shared values ​​such as democracy, rule of law and people-centric governance.” Later, King Herald also organized a lunch in the honor of Prime Minister Modi.

The Prime Minister thanked the King for the warm welcome and hospitality. Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Modi was awarded the ‘Grand Cross of the Royal Norwegian Order of Merit’, Norway’s highest civilian honor given to foreign heads of state and government.

After receiving the honour, PM Modi said, “I am honored to receive the Grand Cross of the Royal Norwegian Order of Merit. This honor is dedicated to the people of India and is a symbol of the strong India-Norway friendship. It reflects our shared commitment to global progress.” The Prime Minister also thanked King Harald and the people of Norway for this honour. According to the PMO, this honor is given for outstanding services in the interest of Norway and humanity.
