Pune : The State Transport Department has announced an extension to the vehicle owners for fitting the High Security Registration Number Plate (HSRP) on their vehicles. Now vehicle owners will get an opportunity to install HSRP till June 30, 2026, after which penal action will be taken against those who do not follow the rules. Installation of HSRP has been made mandatory for all vehicles registered in the state before April 1, 2019.
This decision is considered important to control vehicle theft, fake number plates and criminal incidents. According to the Transport Department, millions of vehicles in and around Pune city have not yet been fitted with HSRP. As the response from the vehicle owners is low, it has been decided to extend the deadline. Many motorists also complained about non-availability of slots.
Meanwhile, from July 1, a special campaign will be conducted by the traffic police and the transport department against non-HSRP vehicles. Punitive action will be taken against drivers who violate the rules.

63 percent vehicles are yet to be installed
More than 25 lakh vehicles in Pune city will have to install this number plate. In the last one and a half years, the deadline for installation of number plates was extended five times. Yet till now only 11 lakh 34 thousand 684 vehicle owners have registered for ‘HSRP’. 11 lakh 32 thousand 108 of them have been given time to install number plates, 9 lakh 30 thousand 269 vehicle owners have installed number plates. Even today 63 percent of vehicles are yet to be fitted with HSRP number plates.
Vehicle owners should register on the official website and install HSRP number plates as soon as possible.
