New Delhi. Trinamool Congress leader Abhishek Banerjee has got relief from the Calcutta High Court in the case of making inflammatory statements against Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The court has directed the police not to take any punitive action against Banerjee at present. The court has imposed this ban till July 31. However, the court has banned Banerjee from going abroad without permission. The court has also expressed displeasure over his statement. The court has also directed Abhishek Banerjee to cooperate with the police in the investigation and respond to every notice sent by the police.

High Court Judge Saugato Bhattacharya has said that there is no need to interrogate Abhishek Banerjee in custody. However, he has told the police that if Banerjee does not cooperate in the investigation, this information should be given to the court. Banerjee has also been directed to appear in the court personally within every 48 hours of receiving the notice. This whole matter happened during the West Bengal Assembly election campaign when TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee had used words like ‘Godfather of Delhi’ for Amit Shah in a rally. Apart from this, he also challenged and threatened Amit Shah.

In this case, social worker Rajeev Sarkar had lodged an FIR against Abhishek Banerjee in Bidhannagar cyber crime police station. According to the FIR, Banerjee had threatened Amit Shah and said that I challenge him, he will be in Kolkata on the 4th, the day of election results, and will meet after 12 noon. TMC will end the game you guys have started. After the FIR was registered, TMC leader Banerjee filed a petition in the Calcutta High Court and demanded cancellation of the FIR.
