New Delhi: Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport has issued a public health advisory in response to growing global concern over Ebola Virus Disease. The advisory applies to passengers arriving from or transiting through countries reporting Ebola cases, including the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda and South Sudan.
The alert has been issued under guidelines from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, as part of precautionary measures to prevent potential importation of the disease.
Symptoms and Reporting Guidelines
Airport authorities have urged travelers to remain alert for symptoms associated with Ebola, including fever, severe weakness, fatigue, headache, muscle pain, vomiting, diarrhea, sore throat and unexplained bleeding.
Passengers showing any of these symptoms have been advised to immediately inform the airport health officer or contact the health desk before completing immigration procedures. Officials have also stressed the importance of disclosing any direct contact with the bodily fluids of a suspected or confirmed Ebola patient.
Monitoring and Post-Arrival Advisory
According to the advisory, travelers who develop symptoms within 21 days of arrival in India should seek immediate medical attention and inform healthcare authorities about their travel history.
The airport has also requested full cooperation from passengers during health screening processes conducted by the Airport Health Organization (APHO). Authorities said these measures are part of international health regulations aimed at ensuring passenger safety and preventing the spread of infectious diseases.
