Danger of ‘Super El-Nino’ is looming over India too, extreme heat will increase, 150 year old records may be broken…
New Delhi. The country is currently in the grip of extreme heat. From North India to Central and Western states, temperatures are continuously setting new records. In many areas including Delhi-NCR, the mercury has crossed 45 to 48 degrees Celsius. The Meteorological Department has ruled out the possibility of getting relief from heat wave and extreme heat in the coming days also.

According to the same weather experts, the rapidly developing ‘Super El-Nino’ in the equatorial Pacific Ocean can seriously affect the weather of the entire world including India. It is believed that this could prove to be the most dangerous El Nino since 1877, which could break almost 150 years old records.
What is Super El Nino?
El Nino is a natural climate phenomenon that occurs when surface temperatures in the eastern Pacific Ocean become warmer than normal. It affects the global wind system and weather cycles. When sea surface temperatures rise 1.5 degrees Celsius or more above average, it is called a “Super El-Nino.”
According to scientists, this time the rise in sea temperature may reach 3 degrees Celsius, which may even surpass the record of 2.7 degrees Celsius recorded in 1877.
Why is the heat increasing?
According to experts, several major reasons are responsible behind the current heatwave:
Prolonged dry weather and lack of clouds, causing the sun’s rays to fall directly on the ground.
Rapidly increasing concrete, vehicle smoke, heat from air conditioners and industrial activities in cities.
Global warming and continued rise in ocean temperatures.
Due to these reasons, big cities are turning into “heat islands”, where temperatures are recorded several degrees higher than rural areas.
What will be the impact on India?
About 70 percent of India’s annual rainfall comes from the south-west monsoon. But if El Nino becomes stronger, the monsoon may weaken, due to which there is a possibility of less than normal rainfall in many parts of the country.
According to the estimates of the Meteorological Department, this time the average rainfall in the country may be only 800 mm. Its biggest impact will be on agriculture and water resources.
What do the experts say?
According to experts, the risk of drought may increase in North, West and Central India. There may be a situation of water crisis and crop loss in many states. On the other hand, the possibility of excessive rain and floods may also increase in South India and coastal areas, especially in areas like Chennai.
The biggest crisis in 150 years?
Scientists have warned that if Super El Nino becomes active at full strength, its effects could be more severe than the devastating event of 1877. At that time there was drought, famine and massive loss of life in many parts of the world.
Not only this, the El Nino of 1982-83 and 1997-98 had caused trillions of dollars of loss to the global economy. In such a situation, experts believe that this time too there may be a huge impact on agriculture, water resources, energy and economy.
weather department warning
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts ranging from heat wave to severe heat wave in many parts of the country. Experts are advising people to avoid going out in the afternoon, drink enough water and adopt measures to protect from heat. The whole world is keeping an eye on how severe the impact of Super El-Nino will be in the coming months.
