Saswata Chatterjee joins Rajkummar Rao in Dada
Mumbai: Fresh casting developments have emerged from the sets of Dada, the upcoming biographical film based on the life of former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly. Reports suggest acclaimed Bengali actor Saswata Chatterjee has joined the cast of the much-anticipated project, which features Rajkummar Rao in the lead role.
Saswata to reportedly play Sourav Ganguly’s father
According to reports, Saswata Chatterjee has been cast as Chandi Ganguly, the father of Sourav Ganguly.
The actor, widely recognised for his portrayal of Bob Biswas in Kahaani, has reportedly already joined the ongoing filming schedule in Mumbai.
The supporting cast is also said to be taking shape, with reports indicating that Aparajita Auddy may portray Sourav Ganguly’s mother Nirupa Ganguly, while Rahul Dev Bose is expected to play his brother Snehashish Ganguly.
Reports further suggest that these characters will help depict the personal and family side of Ganguly’s life beyond his cricketing achievements.
Film moves ahead with ongoing production
The biopic officially went on floors earlier this year after Rajkummar Rao shared photographs from the sets and confirmed the beginning of production through social media.
The project is being directed by Vikramaditya Motwane, known for directing critically acclaimed films and web projects.
Sources quoted in media reports have suggested that Ganguly himself was recently present during portions of the shooting schedule.
The production team is also reportedly preparing to move to Kolkata for an extensive filming schedule later this month.

Story to trace Ganguly’s cricket and personal journey
The film is expected to chronicle Sourav Ganguly’s rise from an aspiring young cricketer to becoming one of Indian cricket’s most influential captains.
His leadership period is often credited with reshaping the mindset of Indian cricket and building a competitive team that achieved notable success on the international stage.
Apart from cricketing milestones, the narrative is expected to focus on Ganguly’s personal life and relationships.
Reports have also suggested that Tanya Maniktala has been selected to portray Dona Ganguly.
Anticipation builds around sports biopic
Sports biopics continue to remain a popular genre in Indian cinema, with audiences showing interest in stories centred on notable personalities and their journeys.
Given Sourav Ganguly’s significance in Indian cricket history and Rajkummar Rao’s involvement in the lead role, Dada has generated considerable attention since its announcement.
With filming progressing steadily and more cast additions emerging, expectations surrounding the project continue to build ahead of its eventual release.
