According to the rules of the Reserve Bank (RBI), there is no offline work in banks on the second and fourth Saturday of every month. 24 May 2026 (Sunday): Banks will remain closed across the country due to weekly general holiday. In these initial two days, customers will not be able to get any kind of counter service. The proposed bank strike on 25th and 26th May will increase the crisis. There is very little hope of relief on Monday and Tuesday, just after the weekend. SBI Staff Federation has given a strong proposal of two-day nationwide strike on 25th May and 26th May regarding many of its old and pending demands. Main reasons for employees’ dissatisfaction: The main demands of the bank unions include making new permanent recruitments of clerical and other staff, giving employees free option to choose NPS fund manager and improving service conditions. Apart from this, the employees are also said to be very angry regarding the outsourcing of work being done by the bank management and the current promotion policy. If no solution is found in bilateral talks and this strike takes place, then major operations like check clearance and cash deposits may come to a complete halt in these two days. Bakrid (Eid-ul-Azha) holiday on May 27-28: Immediately after the strike, the holy festival of Bakrid (Eid-ul-Azha) will be celebrated across the country on May 27 and 28. According to the official holiday calendar released by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), these holidays will be applicable as per the rules of different states and regions: Selected states: There will be a public holiday in banks on May 27 in some states and on May 28 in some geographical areas. Jammu and Kashmir: In view of the religious peculiarities in this Union Territory, there is every possibility of banks remaining closed on both May 27 and 28. During this entire closure period, SBI’s Internet Banking, Mobile Banking (SBI Yono App) and ATM services will remain fully operational 24 hours.
