Double attack of war and weather! Danger of inflation and food crisis looming over the world in the next one year
New Delhi. Concern about inflation and food crisis is increasing rapidly around the world. Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (UN)Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has warned that the next 6 to 12 months could prove to be extremely sensitive for the global economy and food security. The organization says that the impact of war, energy crisis and worsening climate can reach directly to the kitchens of common people.
War and oil crisis will increase pressure
According to FAO, the impact of increasing tension and war-like situation in West Asia will not be limited to crude oil only. Especially the obstacles arising in the Strait of Hormuz may affect the global supply chain, due to which the prices of food items and essential commodities are likely to increase rapidly.
The report says that the energy crisis and increasing transportation costs are directly impacting agriculture. Due to cost of fuel, the cost of fertilizer production, irrigation and agricultural transportation is also increasing.
Big threat to farming due to El Nino
According to experts, ‘El Nino’ climate effect can also be a major reason behind this possible food crisis. El Niño Due to this, the incidence of drought, irregular rainfall and extreme weather increases in many parts of the world.
According to estimates by American meteorological agencies, the probability of El Nino becoming active between May and July 2026 has reached 82 percent. This can cause huge damage to crops in many agricultural countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America.
Food prices rise for the third consecutive month
According to the recent report of FAO, the global food price index has increased for the third consecutive month in April 2026. The highest rise was recorded in the prices of edible oils.
According to the report, the edible oil index has increased by 5.9 percent and has reached its highest level since July 2022. The main reasons behind this are considered to be the rise in energy prices and increasing tension in the Middle East.
Poor countries are most affected
FAO has warned that if the situation does not improve, the food crisis in weak and developing countries could become serious. In many countries, people may face expensive rations and food shortage.
Experts believe that if war and weather-related problems continue for a long time, it will become very difficult to control global inflation and may have a huge impact on the wallets of common people in the coming months.
