The Enforcement Directorate i.e. ED has conducted fresh raids at several places in Kolkata and Murshidabad. This entire action is related to a big case of money laundering and illegal land grabbing. Former Kolkata Police officer Shantanu Sinha Biswas and criminal Biswajit Poddar alias Sona Pappu are the main accused in this case. Both of them are currently in ED custody. This raid was conducted after the information received by the investigating agency during the interrogation of these two.
ED teams have reached a total of nine different places and searched in this case. Among these places, the main ones are Kasba, Chakraberia and Royd Street areas of Kolkata. Apart from this, the ancestral house of Shantanu Sinha Biswas located in Kandi, Murshidabad is also under investigation. Apart from these places, searches have also been conducted at the house of Biswas’s relative Saurabh Adhikari, Kolkata Police Sub-Inspector Ruhil Amin Ali and Mohammad Ali alias Max Raju.

Why is this investigation being done?
ED is trying to find out how they bought the land wrongly and where the money came from. The team is checking the important papers, mobile, laptop and bank records present there. It is also being seen which people supported them in this game of land. In this connection, the house of a businessman who is close to Sona Pappu has also been searched in Chakraberia, South Kolkata.
Some policemen are also suspected in this case. ED has raided the house of Sub-Inspector Ruhil Amin Ali in Kasba, who has been an officer of Police Welfare Committee. It is being told that he was involved in the business of Shantanu Sinha Biswas’s wife. Apart from this, the manager of a hotel on Royd Street has been interrogated and the owner of the hotel has also been called before the ED.
Action taken at Biswas’s house
Shantanu’s house in Kandi, Murshidabad was closed for the last one week. The ED team waited there for about two hours but when no one came, they had to break the lock and go inside. Shantanu’s sister Gauri Sinha Biswas lives in the same house, who is the vice-president of the municipality.

ED has already arrested many people in this case. First of all, a local businessman named Joy S. Kamdar was arrested in April. After that former police officer Shantanu Sinha Biswas was arrested. Then on May 18, after interrogation, Biswajit Poddar, also known as Sona Pappu, was also caught by the ED.
ED says that Sona Pappu is a dangerous criminal. His name came up in the violence in Ballygunge in 2015, a murder case in 2017 and an attack outside the jail in 2021. Right now ED is interrogating all these and collecting evidence.
