Bilateral talks between India and Cyprus: Prime Minister Modi said – relations have stood the test of time
New Delhi, 22 May. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President of the Republic of Cyprus Nicos Christodoulides held a bilateral meeting at Hyderabad House in New Delhi on Friday. During this, Prime Minister Modi welcomed the President of Cyprus and his delegation. Addressing the program, Prime Minister Modi said that I am very happy to welcome President Nicos Christodoulides to India. PM Modi and the President of Cyprus addressed a joint press conference. During this, Prime Minister Modi said that the relations between the two countries have stood the test of time time and again and now to give them a new direction, the relations are being elevated to the level of strategic partnership.
The PM said that President Nicos Christodoulides had welcomed me very warmly in Cyprus last year. Showing respect for India, you honored me with the ‘highest honour’ of Cyprus. During the entire visit, we felt very deeply your intimacy, your affection and your special connection towards India. Your visit to India today is an important milestone in our common journey. Prime Minister Modi said that the friendship between India and Cyprus is very strong. A shared belief in the values of democracy and rule of law is the foundation of our partnership. We respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries.
India is and will remain fully committed to these principles. Prime Minister Modi said that investment from Cyprus to India has almost doubled in the last decade. Trust has increased between the two countries; India-European Union Free Trade Agreement has created many new possibilities. Leveraging this, we are aiming to double this investment again in the next five years, and to realize this resolve, today we are elevating our trusted relationship to a ‘Strategic Partnership’.
PM Modi said that today we also discussed global issues. Be it Ukraine or West Asia, we will continue to support efforts for an early end to the conflict and peace. We are also unanimous that there is an urgent need to reform global institutions to address growing global challenges. The relationship between India and Cyprus has stood the test of time time and again. Today, with the formation of India-Cyprus ‘Strategic Partnership’, we are going to give new ambition and new speed to our relations.
