Indian star player announced retirement, has been a part of the World Cup squad
New Delhi. Indian cricket player Vijay Shankar, who is also known as a 3D player, announced his retirement on 22 May. Vijay Shankar informed the fans about his retirement by sharing a post on social media in which he made it clear that he is saying goodbye to IPL and domestic cricket as well. Vijay Shankar made his debut in international cricket in the year 2018, in which he was also a part of the Indian squad in the ODI World Cup played in the year 2019. Vijay Shankar also expressed his pain in the post shared on social media.
I decided to retire in search of new opportunities
In the post shared by Vijay Shankar on social media, he wrote that cricket is my life in which I have played it since the age of 10 and after 25 years I consider myself lucky that I got the opportunity to play at every level which everyone dreams of. I have also decided to retire from both domestic and IPL so that I can look for new opportunities in the game.
Playing for the country has been one of the happiest moments for me. I will always be grateful for the love I have received from all of you. I would like to take this opportunity to thank BCCI, all my coaches, support staff, physio and trainers and all those people who have contributed in my cricket journey.
Vijay Shankar’s career has been like this
When Vijay Shankar was selected in Team India’s squad in the ODI World Cup 2019, the then chief selector MSK Prasad had to face a lot of criticism regarding him. After this, when Vijay Shankar got a chance to play against Pakistan in that World Cup, he took a wicket on his very first ball. If we talk about Vijay Shankar’s career, he has played 12 ODI and 9 T20 International matches. In 12 ODI matches, he scored 223 runs at an average of 31.85 and managed to take 4 wickets. In T20 International, Vijay Shankar played 9 matches and scored 101 runs at an average of 25.25 and took 5 wickets.
In IPL, Vijay Shankar got a chance to play for four teams which include Chennai Super Kings, Gujarat Titans, Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad. While playing a total of 78 matches in IPL, Vijay Shankar scored 1233 runs and took 9 wickets.
In domestic cricket, Vijay Shankar has played for the Tamil Nadu team and while playing a total of 77 matches in first class cricket, he scored a total of 4253 runs at an average of 46.73, which includes 13 centuries and 23 half-centuries. Whereas Vijay Shankar took 43 wickets in bowling at an average of 56.60.
