Congress captured 7 wards in Rohru Municipal Council elections, BJP got a crushing defeat.

In Rohru Municipal Council of Shimla district, Congress has secured a clear majority by capturing seven out of nine wards. Actually, Bharatiya Janata Party has suffered a big setback in this election, because only one candidate supported by BJP could register victory. An independent candidate has hoisted the victory flag in one ward. With these results, Congress’s unilateral dominance over Rohru Municipal Council has been established.

In fact, according to the detailed data of election results, BJP supported candidate Rama Devi won from Ward No. 1 (Dashalni and Seri) by obtaining maximum 209 votes. In this ward, his nearest rival Vrinda Jilta got 153 votes, Rajwanti got 104 votes and Vikrama Devi got 53 votes. Congress’s Parul won from Ward No. 2 (Upper Bazar) with 116 votes, while Usha Sharma got 100 votes. Congress supported Sujay Aggarwal won from Ward No. 3 (Main Bazar) by a huge margin of 266 votes. His rival Ranjana Raitka received 146 votes.

These candidates registered victory

Ranjita won from Ward No. 4 (Samala) by getting 122 votes, while Ritu got 103 votes. From Ward No. 5 (Bus Stand area), Raj Kumar strengthened his claim with 79 votes and Rajesh Chand had to be satisfied with 54 votes. Preeti Chauhan won from Ward No. 6 (Block Area) with 124 votes, while Bina Devi got 33 votes. From Ward No. 7 (Court Road area) Jitendra Chauhan got 113 votes and Saurav Tanta got 30 votes. Pyare Lal Azad won from Ward No. 8 (Bavtinala) with 153 votes, while Panna Lal got 140 votes. Independent candidate Shalu Dutta won from Ward No. 9 (Shaktinagar) with 131 votes. His rival Simran Kaur got 42 votes and Sunita Devi got 56 votes. Overall, Congress won seven wards and captured the council with full majority, which is a big defeat for BJP.

Total 77.31 percent voting took place

The voting process started at seven in the morning and continued till three in the afternoon. Immediately after this the counting of votes started. A total of 77.31 percent voters exercised their franchise in these elections, indicating a high voting percentage. Giving detailed information, Returning Officer (MC) and SDM (Civil) Rohru Dharmesh Ramoutra said that out of total 3 thousand 151 registered voters, 2 thousand 436 voters voted. If we look at the voting percentage of men, out of 1652 male voters, 1274 (77.12 percent) voted. At the same time, out of 1499 women voters, 1162 women (77.52 percent) cast their votes. SDM Dharmesh Ramoutra also clarified that the Municipal Council elections were conducted peacefully and no untoward incident was reported. The election process was conducted in a completely fair and orderly manner.
