America’s big offer before India tour, US Foreign Minister Marco Rubio said – will give as much oil as needed
New Delhi: Before US Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s visit to India, Washington has indicated to further strengthen energy partnership with New Delhi. While talking to the media in Miami, Rubio said that America is ready to sell as much energy to India as India wants to buy. He described India as a great ally and partner of America and said that this visit is very important for the relations between the two countries.
Rubio said that during his visit to India, he will get a chance to meet the foreign ministers of the Quad countries, which can give a new direction to strategic and economic cooperation. This statement is considered very important amid the global energy crisis that arose after the US-Iran war.
America wants to sell more energy to India
Rubio said that there is already good cooperation between America and India in many areas and there is a need to further increase it in the energy sector. “We work very well with them,” he said. Therefore this is an important journey. I’m glad we’re able to make this trip because I think we’ll have a lot to talk about.
He further said, we will also hold a meeting with the Quad there, which is important. I think my first meeting as Foreign Minister was with the Quad. I am glad that we are now able to do this in India and we will also hold a meeting later this year. Speaking on the global energy crisis, Rubio said, we want to sell them as much energy as they can buy. And obviously, you’ve seen that I think we’re at historic levels of American production and exports.
America also eyes Venezuelan oil
Rubio said that America wants India to increase the American share in its energy needs. He said that talks are also going on between the two countries in this direction. “We want them to be a big part of their portfolio,” he said. We also think there is opportunity in Venezuelan oil. This statement of Rubio has come at a time when Venezuela’s interim President Delsey Rodriguez is going to visit India next week. The issue of selling oil to India is likely to be discussed during his visit. Rubio also gave information about this visit.
When will the Quad meeting take place?
An important meeting of Quad countries is proposed on 26 May. Apart from Rubio, Australia’s Foreign Minister Penny Wong and Japan’s Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi will be included in this. The meeting will be chaired by India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.
US Secretary of State
Rubio will be the first US Secretary of State to visit Kolkata after almost 14 years. Earlier in the year 2012, the then Foreign Minister Hillary Clinton had visited Kolkata. The special thing is that the American Consulate in Kolkata is considered to be the second oldest American Consulate in the world.
Have mentioned India-Venezuela oil agreement earlier also
US President Donald Trump had mentioned India buying oil from Venezuela in early February. At that time, an important trade agreement was announced between Washington and New Delhi, in which it was said that the reciprocal tariff on Indian imports would be reduced from 25 percent to 18 percent.
