When heat stroke occurs, the body temperature suddenly increases and the person starts having problems like dizziness, vomiting, high fever, headache and weakness. In such a situation, it is very important to take right steps at the right time. Let us know what should be done first in case of heat stroke and what are the easy steps to get relief.
The body gives many signals when you feel heat stroke. Its initial symptoms are intense thirst, excessive sweating, feeling heavy in the head, dizziness and feeling of weakness.
If timely attention is not given, the body temperature may increase and the person may even become unconscious. Therefore, it is important to start relief measures immediately as soon as symptoms appear.
Step 1: Move to a cool place immediately
If a person has sunstroke, then first of all remove him from the sun and make him sit or lie down in a cool and airy place. Due to this the body temperature starts decreasing gradually.
If the clothes are too tight, loosen them so that the body can get rest.
Step 2: Cool the body
It is considered most important to cool the body in case of heatstroke. For this, place a compress of cold water on the forehead, neck and hands and feet.
If possible, sit in the fan or cooler air. One should avoid pouring very cold ice water directly on the body.
Step 3: Make up for the lack of water in the body
Dehydration in the body can increase rapidly due to heatstroke. In such a situation, give water to the person little by little. Giving ORS, lemonade, buttermilk or coconut water is considered more beneficial.
If the person is unconscious or is not in a position to drink water, immediately seek help from a doctor.
Step 4: Let it rest
After heat stroke the body feels very weak. In such a situation, the person should rest and avoid going in the sun for a few hours. It is considered better to take light and easily digestible food.
What to do to avoid heat stroke
Avoid exposure to strong sunlight between 12 noon and 4 pm. Cover your head with a cloth or cap while going out. Drink enough water to keep the body hydrated and include seasonal fruits, buttermilk and coconut water in the diet in summer.
When to go to the doctor immediately
If you are experiencing problems like high fever, fainting, difficulty in breathing or continuous vomiting, you should immediately contact a doctor. This could be a sign of severe heat stroke.
