Manchester United announces Michael Carrick as permanent manager until 2028
Manchester United has decided to extend Michael Carrick’s stay as manager, tying him down to a new, permanent contract, the Premier League club announced on Friday.
Carrick, taking charge on an interim basis after Ruben Amorim was sacked, oversaw the club’s qualification into next season’s UEFA Champions League with 11 wins from 16 games, accumulating the highest points tally in the Premier League since his arrival.
“From the moment that I arrived here 20 years ago, I felt the magic of Manchester United. Carrying the responsibility of leading our special football club fills me with immense pride,” Carrick was quoted in a media release.
“Throughout the past five months, this group of players have shown they can reach the standards of resilience, togetherness and determination that we demand here.
Carrick’s performance thus convinced the board to continue his stay on a permanent basis. As a result, the former England and United midfielder signed a contract until 2028.
“Now it’s time to move forward together again, with ambition and a clear sense of purpose. Manchester United and our incredible supporters deserve to be challenging for the biggest honours again,” Carrick said.
