Suryakumar Yadav Captaincy Update Ahead of India Changes

India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav is fighting to hold onto his leadership role after a prolonged slump in form, with reports suggesting he is keen to lead the side in the upcoming series against Ireland and England.

Suryakumar led India to the T20 World Cup title in March, but his personal form has been a cause for concern ever since. The stylish right-hander managed only one notable fifty throughout the tournament, and things have not improved since.

In IPL 2026, the Mumbai Indians batter has managed just 210 runs in 12 games at an average of 17.50, with a solitary half-century to his name. The underwhelming numbers, combined with his age, have triggered speculation that the national selectors may look to replace him as T20I captain and possibly drop him from the squad altogether.

In a bid to revive his career, Suryakumar will participate in the T20 Mumbai League, scheduled from June 1 to June 13, aiming to rediscover his touch and demonstrate his worth to the selection committee.

India are set to tour Ireland for a two-match T20I series from June 26 to 28, followed by a five-match T20I series against England from July 1 to July 11.

Despite the scrutiny, India’s record under Suryakumar’s captaincy has been impressive, winning the Latest News 2025 and the T20 World Cup 2026, while remaining unbeaten in all bilateral T20I series. Whether that legacy will be enough to secure his future remains to be seen.
