Bengaluru: Actor Rukmini Vasanth has filed a cybercrime complaint after AI-generated images falsely linked to her circulated widely on social media. The actor stated that the visuals were fabricated and urged strict action against misuse of technology and the creation of manipulated content online.
Rukmini clarified that the images being circulated had no connection to her and described the incident as a serious violation of privacy.
Actor approaches Cyber Crime department
Speaking about the matter, Rukmini said a formal complaint had been submitted to the Cyber Crime department and expressed confidence that authorities would investigate the issue thoroughly.
According to the actor, such incidents are not limited to public personalities and affect many girls and women across the country.
She also highlighted that while artificial intelligence offers several benefits, its misuse for creating manipulated content remains a serious concern.
Rukmini stated that people should think responsibly about the impact such content can have on individuals and society.
Viral visuals triggered online discussions
The issue gained attention after visuals appearing to show a woman near a swimming pool in a green bikini began circulating on social media platforms.
The content spread rapidly online, leading some users to believe that the visuals were authentic.
However, the actor later clarified that the images had been digitally manipulated and generated using artificial intelligence.
The circulation of deepfake and AI-generated content has increasingly become a matter of concern, with several public figures in recent years reporting similar incidents.
Rukmini warns against sharing manipulated content
In a public statement issued earlier, Rukmini strongly denied any association with the visuals and appealed to people not to circulate or engage with such content.
She stated that she and her team had become aware of AI-generated images falsely being presented as authentic photographs of her.
According to the statement, legal and cybercrime action was being initiated against individuals involved in creating and distributing the manipulated material.
The actor described the creation and circulation of fabricated content as irresponsible and a serious invasion of privacy.
Focus returns to awareness around AI misuse
The incident has once again drawn attention to concerns regarding deepfake technology and the unauthorised use of artificial intelligence tools to create misleading visuals.
Experts and cyber safety advocates have repeatedly raised concerns regarding the misuse of AI-generated content, particularly in cases involving privacy violations and misinformation.
While AI technologies continue to offer significant benefits across various sectors, concerns remain over the need for safeguards and responsible use.
On the professional front, Rukmini, who was recently associated with Kantara: Chapter 1, is also linked with upcoming projects including Toxic and Dragon.
