Why is moong dal kadhi better than gram flour kadhi?

Moong dal kadhi is not only different and tasty from the traditional gram flour kadhi, but it is also very beneficial for your health. It is often seen that after eating curry made from gram flour, many people start having problems like heaviness in the stomach, gas or indigestion. In contrast, moong dal is very easy to digest. It contains abundant amounts of protein and fiber. This is the reason why it is considered a great ‘combo’ of taste and health.

Easy method of making Moong Dal Kadhi

You don’t need a lot of frills to make this special kadhi. You can prepare it easily with basic ingredients available at home:

  • Soaking Dal: First of all, wash one cup unpeeled moong dal and soak it in water for 2 to 3 hours. After this, filter the water and grind the lentils coarsely in the mixer.
  • Preparing Pakodas: Mix half of the ground lentils with a little salt, asafoetida, finely chopped green chillies and green coriander and fry small pakodas. Moong dal pakodas are very soft.
  • Kadhi batter: Add one cup of sour curd or buttermilk to the remaining half of the lentil paste. Add turmeric, red chilli powder and water as required and prepare a thin and uniform solution.
  • Boiling and cooking: Heat some oil in a pan. Add tempering of fenugreek seeds, mustard, cumin and asafoetida in it. Now pour the prepared solution into the pan and keep stirring continuously until it starts boiling. After boiling, reduce the flame and let the curry cook for 15-20 minutes.
  • Tadka and serving: When the curry is cooked well, add prepared pakodas to it. Lastly, apply a strong tempering of desi ghee, dry red chilli and Kashmiri red chilli powder and serve with hot rice.
