‘It’s an emotional moment’: Hema Malini on Dharmendra receiving Padma Vibhushan

In a moment heavy with pride but also with a personal loss that sits deep Hema Malini has touched down in the national capital Delhi to take in the Padma Vibhushan being conferred posthumously on her late husband screen legend Dharmendra.

India’s second highest civilian honour will be formally presented by President Droupadi Murmu today at an investiture ceremony and in doing so it will be recognizing the actor’s sweeping imprint for decades and across Indian cinema.

“It’s an emotional moment for me. Ahana is with me Esha wanted to come but could not make it here. The entire family is happy. Sunny, Bobby everyone is aware of this and its a big moment for all of us,” she told the publication.

The Padma Vibhushan was first floated in January of this year. The He-man of Hindi cinema then passed away at the age of 89 just weeks short of what would’ve been his 90th birthday and left behind an emotional vacuum really across the whole industry and among multiple generations of fans.
