Quad Summit 2026: Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong is coming to India, said- ‘Important partnership in uncertain times’
Canberra. Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong will visit India today i.e. on Monday to attend the meeting of foreign ministers of the member countries of the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue (Quad). The meeting will discuss issues of “common interest” including maritime security and critical minerals. India, as the current chair of the Quad, will host the meeting on Tuesday.
“The Quad is an important partnership in these uncertain times,” Wong was quoted as saying in a press release on Australia’s Foreign Minister’s website. “The four countries are working together to shape a peaceful, stable and prosperous future for the Indo-Pacific region.”
Wong said Australia, India, Japan and the US were “delivering concrete results on matters of shared interest, including maritime security, critical minerals supplies, infrastructure development and disaster relief.”
She said that during her visit to India, she will also hold the 17th Australia-India Foreign Minister Framework Talks with Foreign Minister S Jaishankar. Wong said Australia and India’s partnership “has never been more important.”
“As comprehensive strategic partners, Australia and India are deepening cooperation in trade and investment, defense and maritime security, climate and energy transition, strategic technology and education and skills,” he said. At the heart of our partnership are the strong social ties between the people of our two countries.
The Quad, the grouping of India, the US, Australia and Japan, has emerged as a major forum primarily focusing on peace, security and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is currently on a visit to India. He will also attend this meeting. The meeting is also likely to decide the broad agenda of the Quad summit, possibly to be held in India later this year.
