First voting, now resignation of 3 MLAs, AIADMK starts disintegrating in Tamil Nadu

The split in All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) in Tamil Nadu has now formally begun. A total of three AIADMK MLAs have met the Speaker of the Tamil Nadu Assembly and submitted their resignations. These three have also met ruling Tamilaga Vetti Kazhagam (TVK) leader and state government minister Aadhav Arjun, due to which it is believed that now all three are going to join TVK. As soon as his resignation is accepted, all three seats will become vacant and by-elections will have to be held there within the next 6 months.

All three have met Speaker JCD Prabhakaran and submitted their resignations. Now on the resignation of these three, Speaker Prabhakaran has said that all three have themselves come and resigned, hence their resignation has been accepted. On the issue of MLAs cross-voting during the trust vote, Speaker Prabhakaran has said, ‘All the petitions are still pending. I will look at them and give my decision. There is no deadline to decide who is the whip of the party and who is not. I will give a decision only after reviewing it.

Now the situation is becoming such that by-elections will be held simultaneously on 4 assembly seats in Tamil Nadu. This is because Chief Minister Joseph Vijay had won the elections from two assembly seats and had resigned from Tiruchirappalli East seat. In this way, the effective number of MLAs in Tamil Nadu Assembly will become 230 and only 115 MLAs will be required for majority. It is being said that TVK is trying its best to gain majority in the Assembly on its own. In such a situation, there are speculations that there may be more such resignations in the future.

The game was played during the trust vote

Joseph Vijay, who staked claim to form the government in Tamil Nadu, had gone to the Governor a total of four times. His claim was not accepted thrice because he did not have the support of 118 MLAs. However, when he succeeded in forming the government for the fourth time and the process of trust vote took place, 144 votes were cast in his favor. It was then decided that AIADMK was now in ruins. Senior AIADMK leader CV Shanmugam had openly challenged Palaniswami’s leadership and claimed the support of 25 MLAs.

At present, TVK clearly has the support of All India Muslim League, CPI, CPM and VCK apart from Congress. At least 20 MLAs of AIADMK had also voted in support of TVK and it is believed that sooner or later they too will join TVK.

The equation of all three seats is interesting

Margatam Kumaravel has won the election from Madurantakam assembly seat for the second consecutive time on AIADMK. Interestingly, TVK was second on his seat and the difference of victory and defeat was only 7194 votes.

P Satyabhama has been elected MLA for the first time from Dharapuram Vidhansabha seat and TVK was at third position on this seat and got 46438 votes.

At the same time, the third MLA S Jayakumar has become the second consecutive MLA from Perundurai assembly seat. This seat has been held by AIADMK since 2001. On this seat also DMK was at number two while TVK was at number 3. However, here also TVK got 59,483 votes.
