Rane’s big attack on Bakrid, ‘Why are those who say dry Holi silent now?’ Muslim organizations angry over ‘virtual goat slaughtering’ statement
Mumbai: After Nitish Rane’s statement regarding Bakrid, a new controversy has arisen in Maharashtra politics. Amid the ongoing debate over animal sacrifice on Bakrid i.e. Eid al-Adha, Maharashtra government minister Nitish Rane has created a stir in political and religious circles by suggesting ‘virtual sacrifice’.
Strictness regarding animal sacrifice in public places
In fact, in many areas of Maharashtra including Mumbai, strictness has been taken regarding animal sacrifice in public places. There is already a ban on cow sacrifice in the state. Responding to the same issue, Nitish Rane said that just as people are advised to play “Dry Holi” during Hindu festivals and not to burn firecrackers on Diwali, similarly on Bakrid, people should be advised to perform “virtual sacrifice” by putting a picture of a goat on the computer.
Rane said in his statement that people who talk about environment and rules during Hindu festivals avoid giving such advice on Bakrid. He claimed that some people raise the issue of rules and environment only on Hindu festivals. Referring to Veer Savarkar, Rane said that Hindus face more challenges from their own people than from external threats.
In programs organized in many areas of Maharashtra, Rane also appealed to the Hindu society to remain united. He said that it is the responsibility of the government to ensure safety and justice of the society and the state government is working in this direction.
At the same time, Muslim organizations have reacted strongly to this statement of Rane. Shahabuddin Razvi Barelvi criticized the minister’s statement and said that Islam is a practical religion and it is wrong to make such statements without understanding the religious traditions. He alleged that the minister does not have correct information about Islamic customs and madrassas.
Controversial comment regarding madrassas
It is noteworthy that Nitish Rane had also made controversial remarks regarding madrassas in his speech. He alleged that some madrassas are promoting fundamentalism instead of education. After these statements, the political atmosphere has become more heated. Opposition parties and many social organizations have also started reacting to this issue.
