Dewas, May 25: A shocking case of cheating of lakhs of rupees from more than 42 families in the name of mass marriage has come to light in Dewas district of Madhya Pradesh. The organizers called the families to Dewas and fled. Neither the brides nor the organizers were found. The victims’ families are in shock. A couple from Shamshabad is accused of contacting the families of unmarried youth from different districts and promising to organize a mass marriage ceremony on May 25.

For this he deposited Rs 25 thousand per family. The accused, through an acquaintance, targeted those families where the youth were not able to get married. The families were assured that Mata Tekri Darshan would be held on May 24 and a mass marriage would be held on May 25 at the club ground in Radhaganj. Accommodation arrangements will also be made.

What happened in Dewas? On 24-25 May, youths and their families from different districts reached Radhaganj Club ground in Dewas. But there was neither any wedding ceremony, nor brides, nor organisers. After waiting for hours the families realized the fraud. The victims sought answers from Dineshdas Bairagi’s brother present at the spot.

According to BNP police station, the people who took the money are currently absconding. The police are interrogating one of his acquaintances. The investigation of the case is going on after recording the statements of the victims and further action will be taken soon. This incident highlights the growing trend of fraud in the name of mass marriage, in which poor and middle class families are getting trapped in the greed of easy marriage.
