Vaibhav Sooryavanshi eyeing Chris Gayle’s T20 record

Indian batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was the latest guest on former England skipper Kevin Pietersen’s show called ‘The Switch’. The show, which is a huge hit on YouTube, has several batters from the past and present trying to score 100 in just 50 balls, with the speed of the deliveries increasing gradually.

The 15-year-old was asked by KP what record he wanted to achieve, to which Sooryavanshi said that he wanted to score a double ton in T20 cricket. Pietersen said that the highest score in this format was held by Chris Gayle, to which the youngster replied that he wanted to go past the record and score 200 runs. Youngster also said that if he bats the entire 20 overs, he will eventually get to the mark.

For the unversed, Gayle scored 175 for Royal Challengers Bengaluru against Pune Warriors India during the IPL 2013 season. West Indian legend ended up scoring the massive score off just 66 balls with 13 boundaries and 17 sixes and stayed not out. During the course of his innings, Gayle also scored the fastest century in the IPL.

Indian batting prodigy scored his maiden ton in the league of just 35 balls during the 2025 season. That feat was achieved during the Rajasthan Royals vs. Gujarat Titans game. Vaibhav also scored a 36-ball ton for RR during the current season in the game against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. Apart from these records, RR’s opener just needs seven sixes to go past Chris’ record haul of 59 sixes during the 2012 edition, which is the most by any batter during a single season.

Sanjay Manjrekar not happy with youngster being used as an impact player

Former Indian batter Sanjay Manjrekar has slammed the Rajasthan team management for using the young batter as an impact player in the IPL 2026. Manjrekar, during his chat with SportStar’s insight edge podcast after the MI vs RR game, said, “Feel that we should do away with his rule. Do we want to see Vaibhav show us only one aspect of his game?”

The 60-year-old also gave the example of Rohit Sharmawho has been used as an impact player by the Mumbai Indians for the past few years. Mumbai’s former Ranji-trophy winning skipper also said: “Cricketers should contribute in all facets of the game and give a chance for others to assess and understand the player.”
