Major action by NIA in Mothabadi judge harassment case, 14 more arrested
Kolkata. After the change of government in West Bengal, the National Investigation Agency has expedited the investigation of Mothabadi judge harassment case. The Central Investigation Agency raided various areas of Kaliachak and Mothabadi in Malda district late on Monday night and arrested 14 people.
With this, a total of 68 people have been arrested in this case so far. NIA will present these people in the court today and demand their custody. The investigating agency believes that by interrogating them, other people related to this case can be identified.
In fact, during the SIR process in the state, the situation suddenly became tense in Mothabadi area of Kaliachak. The allegation was that despite having all the valid documents, people’s names were being removed from the list.
Regarding this issue, the judges who had come to the BDO office for SIR work were kept surrounded for several hours. The crowd demonstrated against the judges.
During this period, the situation worsened so much that seven judges were somehow evacuated from there late in the night under the protection of central forces. A woman judge was also included among them.
On the instructions of the Supreme Court, the investigation of the case was handed over to NIA. The agency is investigating on the basis of three FIRs registered in this case.
After this incident, ISF candidate of Mothabadi assembly constituency Maulana Shahjahan Ali Qadri was arrested by the police.
After this, the alleged main conspirator of the case and MIM leader Mofakkerul Islam was caught by CID from Bagdogra Airport. Later, 49 other people were also arrested respectively.
The NIA, which took over the investigation following the Supreme Court’s direction, also arrested Mothabadi’s ISF leader Ghulam Rabbani. During the investigation, names of many other suspects came to light after interrogation and scanning CCTV footage.
