FWICE imposes non-cooperation ban on Ranveer Singh caught in ‘Don 3’ controversy, actor breaks silence

The controversy surrounding Bollywood superstar Ranveer Singh and producer-director Farhan Akhtar’s film ‘Don 3’ has now reached a very serious point. The film industry’s largest labor and technical organization ‘Federation of Western India Cine Employees’ (FWICE) has taken a tough stand against Ranveer Singh and issued ‘non-cooperation instructions’ against him. The Federation has instructed all members of the film industry not to work with the actor, which is being considered as a kind of ban in the film industry. Meanwhile, the film’s producers Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani (Excel Entertainment) have demanded compensation of Rs 45 crore from Ranveer Singh for the huge losses incurred during pre-production.

Ranveer Singh issued official statement after the tough decision of the Federation

After the announcement of the ban by the Federation and the media uproar, Ranveer Singh has finally broken his silence on this entire matter. A measured statement issued by the actor’s official spokesperson said that he has the utmost respect for the film industry and everyone associated with the ‘Don’ franchise.

Ranveer Singh’s spokesperson said in a statement, “Ranveer Singh has the highest respect for the film fraternity and everyone associated with the Don franchise. He has consciously chosen to maintain silence amid the recent developments regarding ‘Don 3’, as he believes that professional discussions and personal equations are best handled with dignity, maturity and mutual respect.”

The statement further added, “A number of rumors and speculations have surfaced over time, but Ranveer has never found it necessary to respond publicly or promote these speculations. His entire focus remains firmly focused on his work and upcoming commitments. He has the deepest respect and goodwill for everyone involved in this franchise and sincerely wishes for the continued success of the franchise.”

Chief Advisor of the Federation (FWICE) Ashok Pandit termed the matter as very serious and said that the dispute started when on April 11, film director Farhan Akhtar lodged an official complaint with the Federation through the ‘Indian Film and Television Directors Association’ (IFTDA). The complaint alleged that Ranveer Singh had signed a contract for three films with Excel Entertainment, but just three weeks before the shooting of the film was to begin, he suddenly backed out from the big project.

Ashok Pandit told the press conference that the federation followed proper procedures. In this case, Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani appeared personally and presented their side and told that ₹ 45 crore has already been spent on the pre-production of the film. After this, the Federation sent three consecutive notices to Ranveer Singh on 22 April, 30 April and 13 May to present his side.

According to Ashok Pandit, instead of communicating directly, Ranveer’s team raised questions on the jurisdiction of the Federation and said that this is a contract matter which should be resolved legally. After this, all the officials of the Federation together passed a resolution of non-cooperation against the actor.

FWICE President BN Tiwari said that this matter is not just between a big star and a producer. He said that when a big film gets stopped at the last moment, its worst impact is on thousands of daily wage labourers, spot boys, junior artists and technicians whose livelihood is linked to that project.

Ashok Pandit gave a stern warning, saying, “We respect Ranveer Singh’s stardom. But no superstar can be bigger than the rules and system of the film industry. “Until Ranveer Singh himself personally meets us and resolves this issue, none of our technicians, spot boys, vanity van suppliers or associated staff from our over 4 lakh members across India will work with him in any of his projects, films or advertisements.”

The differences started in December:

If Bollywood circles are to be believed, after Shahrukh Khan, Ranveer Singh was introduced with great fanfare as the new face of ‘Don 3’ in the year 2023. But in December 2025, there were reports of a rift between the two parties when Ranveer Singh demanded some changes in the script of ‘Don 3’ after the huge success of Aditya Dhar’s film ‘Dhurandhar’. The makers did not approve of these changes, after which Ranveer suddenly left the film.

At present, the Producers Guild of India has also advised both the parties to reach a compromise in this matter instead of choosing the legal route. However, the federation has made it clear that they are still ready to listen to Ranveer Singh’s side for an amicable solution, provided he comes forward himself. Till then, clouds of trouble will continue to loom over this ‘Dhurandhar’ star of Bollywood.
