High tension in the Strait of Hormuz: America fired missiles at Iran’s missile bases, two military boats destroyed

Dubai, Washington. The US military has continuously fired missiles at missile launch sites and military bases located in southern Iran amid increasing military tensions in the Strait of Hormuz. After this major military action by the United States Central Command (CENTCOM), a war-like situation has arisen in the Gulf region. This attack took place at a time when peace talks were going on behind the scenes in Qatar between the two countries.

America’s big action in self-defense

According to the US Defense Ministry (Pentagon), this action has been taken completely in self-defense. US officials claimed that Iranian troops (IRGC) were secretly laying naval mines in international shipping lanes. Not only this, preparations were also being made to target American reconnaissance planes and commercial ships from Iranian bases. As soon as this threat was suspected, the US Navy and Air Force conducted a joint operation and destroyed several missile batteries near the Iranian coastal city of Bandar Abbas and sank two military boats in the sea.

Military confrontation erupted amid talks

According to reports, this shelling took place at a very sensitive time. A temporary ceasefire was going on between the two countries since last month. Apart from this, diplomatic talks on a 14-point permanent peace agreement brokered by Qatar are still going on. The spokesperson of the US Central Command has made it clear that they want peace in the region, but there will be no compromise on the security of American soldiers and global merchant ships. On the other hand, Iran has threatened to take strong retaliatory action, terming the American attack as piracy and a flagrant violation of international rules.

Oil prices may increase worldwide

The Strait of Hormuz is considered to be the world’s most important sea oil route because about 20 percent of the total crude oil sold in the global market passes through this narrow route. Also, the energy security of big Asian countries like India, China and Japan is completely dependent on this route. Military analysts believe that if this conflict prolongs or Iran tries to completely block the Hormuz waterway, there could be a huge increase in crude oil prices around the world. Due to this the global economy will be greatly affected.
