India is the largest producer of mangoes in the world, accounting for almost half of the global production. According to ‘Business Today’, the country’s huge population accounts for the bulk of the country’s mango revenue. However, in recent years, improvements in logistics, irradiation facilities and cold-chain networks have also led to a huge increase in exports.

According to Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority data, India exported about 29,938 metric tonnes of fresh mangoes in the financial year 2024-25, generating export revenue of over ₹470 crore.

In a social media post made by the High Commission of Singapore in India, a true depiction of this excitement has come to light. The post said: “Guys, the Indian mango craze has taken Singapore by storm! Mangoes from various Indian states are being sold literally by the arm in supermarkets in Singapore.”

UAE: Biggest buyer

Indian demand for mangoes is highest among the Gulf countries. The United Arab Emirates is the largest buyer of mangoes.
According to APEDA, India has exported more than 12,000 metric tonnes of mangoes to the UAE in the year 2024 alone, worth $20 million. Apart from the Gulf countries, the demand for mangoes has also grown rapidly in countries like the US, UK, Qatar and Kuwait.

How has the export ecosystem changed?

Over the past decade, India’s mango export ecosystem has undergone significant modernization. Indian exporters are now fully compliant with superior packaging, advanced growing infrastructure and strict phytosanitary regulations mandated by Western nations.
Indian embassies abroad, in collaboration with APEDA, have strengthened the branding of Indian mangoes in foreign supermarkets by organizing food festivals and tie-ups with major retail chains. Despite this strong demand, exporters continue to face challenges such as short duration of the mango season, high cost of air freight and strict import regulations imposed by some countries.
