India’s luck shines! 24 crore barrel oil reserves found, ONGC starts major preparations
New Delhi. A big and relief news has emerged amidst India’s energy needs. Amidst the fluctuations in the prices of crude oil in the international market and the supply crisis, the huge oil reserves found in West Bengal can prove to be a game changer for the country. It is believed that if this project starts with full capacity, India’s dependence on imports can be reduced to a great extent.
Large oil reserves found in West Bengal
Large reserves of crude oil and natural gas have been found in the Ashoknagar area of North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal. This discovery is considered an important achievement in India’s energy sector. According to initial estimates, reserves of about 240 million barrels of crude oil have been predicted in this area, which is one of the largest discoveries ever made for Eastern India.
ONGC is now preparing for production
This oil field was discovered by Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) in the year 2018. However, due to various technical and local reasons the production work could not start. Now the government and related agencies are working towards taking this project forward rapidly, so that commercial production of crude oil can be started as soon as possible.
Big opportunity amid energy crisis
This discovery is considered very important for India amidst the Middle East tension at the global level and uncertainties related to oil supply. India is among the largest crude oil importing countries in the world, hence increase in domestic production can be a big relief for the country’s economy.
Political and administrative efforts intensified
Talks and efforts have intensified at the Central and State levels to take this project forward. Experts associated with the energy sector say that this time is very strategically important for the country, hence emphasis is being laid on starting production.
